Anna Sui is a Chinese-American Detroit native and one of the most extraordinary fashion designers of our time. The Wold of Anna Sui at the Museum of Arts & Design (MAD), explores her exciting world of style and features 70 significant pieces from her archive.
Below are some of our favorite looks from the exhibit!
Nomad

Retro Surfer

According to Sui, her entire collection was based on the idea of a girl who could not wait to get in the water. As a result, the dreamy Retro Surfer section is full of life, vibrant colors and dancing sea patterns that bring a relaxing beach vibe to the collection.
Fairytale

Americana/Schoolgirl

At the young age of 4, Sui already knew she wanted to move to New York City and become a fashion designer. Now that her dream has come true, she produces three collections a year and participates in two fashion show seasons – Spring and Fall.

Diana Vreeland
In 1992, Anna Sui purchased a life-size doll of fashion editor, Diana Vreeland. The doll used to occupy the window of a Barney’s department store and was created by Greer Lankton, an American artist who specialized in creating life-like dolls.
Punk

Before launching her successful career, Sui aspired to dress “rockstars and their girlfriends”. Now, everyone from Gigi Hadid, Victoria Beckham, Emma Stone and many others can be seen wearing her unique ensembles.
