Do you know about the legacy of Bishop Richard Allen and the A.M.E. Church?
On February 14, 1760, Richard Allen was born into slavery. He resided in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood and later founded the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church – the first independent Black denomination in the United States. Bishop Richard Allen is one of America’s most active and influential Black leaders, so a mural honoring his legacy was created by talented Black artist Willis Humphrey at the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
